We are seeking candidates who are interested in working with children with autism, who have a passion for school or group learning, and are looking to make a difference!
AZA United partners with an autism school in central Phoenix to offer a K-12 afterschool activities program. This position involves being a Direct Care Worker in the program. You will be working with a team to implement a variety of teaching strategies to help participants engage in group activities and learn new skills. These activities include peer play, art, sports, technology, and more! You will be assigned a small group of no more than 4 children to provide fun learning activities and encourage social interaction. Activities are planned in advance and program supervisors are always on site to help!
As a Direct Care Worker, you also have the option of doing additional home-based work with children outside of the afterschool program. These services are optional based on client need and employee availability. Pay rates for home-based services may differ; contact us for more information.
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older
Must be able to work a minimum of 2 late afternoons between 2:30 PM - 6:30 PM (M-F) each week
Ability to proficiently communicate in English both verbally and in writing
Must successfully pass a criminal history check and fingerprint clearance
Must successfully complete required trainings and certifications (CPR, First Aid, Article 9, and additional job-related training)
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Administer habilitative therapies and/or behavioral interventions to develop and enhance life skills of each client while providing for their social, emotional, and physical needs
Provide assistance to supervisory staff in the development of program activities and teaching strategies
Implement tasks identified in the individual’s DDD planning document and associated teaching strategies
Work with a maximum ratio of 4 clients to 1 Direct Care Worker, and organize activities suited for a group setting.
Maintain close supervision of clients to ensure safety and engagement
Respond positively and appropriately to each client’s behaviors and verbalizations to improve behavior and maximize independent functioning, consistent with the personal values and direction expressed by the their family and/or AZA United supervisors
Assess situations and determine best possible solutions by using critical thinking and problem- solving skills
Submit accurate and timely paperwork and compliance items, including data summary reports, timesheets and incident reports, changes of employment information, etc.
